Knowledge BaseClear answers about our in-browser OCR processing, security safeguards, and spreadsheet conversion.
What image formats are supported?expand_more
Our tool supports PNG, JPG/JPEG, WEBP, BMP, and TIFF image formats. For best OCR results, use high-resolution images with clear text. PNG and TIFF formats produce the most accurate results because they use lossless compression.
Is my data private and secure?expand_more
Yes! All OCR processing happens entirely in your browser using Tesseract.js. Your images are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy and data security. When you close the browser tab, all data is cleared from memory.
Which languages does the OCR support?expand_more
Our tool supports 100+ languages through Tesseract.js, including English, Hindi, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Indonesian, Arabic, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, and many more. Select your language from the dropdown before converting.
How accurate is the text extraction?expand_more
Accuracy depends on image quality. High-resolution images with clear, well-contrasted text typically achieve 95%+ accuracy. For best results, use images with at least 150 DPI resolution, good lighting, and dark text on a light background. Handwritten text, low-resolution images, or complex backgrounds may reduce accuracy.
Can I convert multiple images at once?expand_more
Yes! You can upload multiple images simultaneously. Each image will be processed separately, and you can choose to create a separate sheet for each image in the output Excel file, or combine all extracted data into a single sheet.
Why does the first conversion take longer?expand_more
The first time you use the tool, it downloads the OCR language model (~15MB) for the selected language. This model is cached in your browser, so subsequent conversions using the same language are much faster — typically completing in just a few seconds.
Can I convert handwritten text to Excel?expand_more
Our OCR engine works best with printed or typed text. It can recognize clearly handwritten text with good contrast, but accuracy will be lower compared to printed text. For handwritten documents, use high-resolution scans with maximum contrast and select the 'Line by Line' extraction mode for best results.
How do I extract a table from a screenshot?expand_more
Take a screenshot of the table you want to extract, then upload it to our tool. Select 'Smart Table' extraction mode — this automatically detects rows, columns, and cell boundaries in your screenshot. The extracted data will be organized into a properly structured Excel spreadsheet with the original table layout preserved.
Does this tool work on mobile phones and tablets?expand_more
Yes! Our Image to Excel converter works on any device with a modern web browser — including iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, Windows laptops, Macs, Chromebooks, and Linux computers. No app installation is required. Simply open the page in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge and start converting.
What is the maximum file size I can upload?expand_more
Each image can be up to 20 MB in size. Since all processing happens locally in your browser, there are no server-side limits. However, very large images (above 10 MB) may take longer to process depending on your device's CPU and memory. For optimal speed, we recommend keeping images under 5 MB.
Can I convert a photo of a receipt or invoice to Excel?expand_more
Absolutely! Our tool is widely used to convert photos of receipts, invoices, bills, and financial documents into editable Excel spreadsheets. For best results, photograph the receipt in good lighting, keep the camera parallel to the document, and make sure all text is clearly visible. Use 'Smart Table' mode to extract line items, quantities, and amounts into organized columns.
What is the difference between XLSX and CSV output?expand_more
XLSX (Excel) format supports multiple sheets, formatting, and is ideal for opening in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc. CSV (Comma-Separated Values) is a lightweight plain-text format that works with virtually any data tool, database, or programming language. Choose XLSX for everyday spreadsheet use, and CSV when you need maximum compatibility or plan to import data into another system.
Do I need to create an account or sign up?expand_more
No! Our Image to Excel converter is completely free to use without any registration, sign-up, or login. There are no accounts, no email verification, no credit card requirements, and no usage limits. Just open the page and start converting images to Excel immediately.
How is this different from Google Docs OCR or Adobe Acrobat?expand_more
Unlike Google Docs OCR, our tool outputs structured Excel files with proper table detection — not just raw text. Unlike Adobe Acrobat, our tool is 100% free with no subscription required. Most importantly, our tool processes everything locally in your browser, so your sensitive images are never uploaded to any cloud server. This makes us the best choice for privacy-conscious users and confidential documents.
